Aims and Objectives
Session Outline
Participants in this 3.5 hour online workshop can expect to examine the myths and realities of sexual violence within a framework of violence against women and girls. Participants will develop an understanding on the law surrounding rape and sexual assault – with a focus on consent. Participants will be introduced to a model of best practice in working with sexual violence and will identify key principles in responding to disclosures of sexual violence sensitively and appropriately.

- Sexual Violence in Social Context
- Exploring the impact of societal attitudes and myths around sexual violence on survivors
- Awareness of how societal attitudes towards sexual violence can either inhibit or encourage disclosure
- Sexual Violence Facts
- Definitions of rape and sexual assault
- Defining consent in law and ethical practice
- Best practice when responding to sexual violence-
- Introduction to the empowerment model as best practice in supporting survivors of sexual violence
- Name and understand key principles in responding to disclosures of sexual violence
- Increase awareness of specialist external sexual violence support services
- Check-out, grounding and self-care
